From the 24th to the 26th of June 2026, three of our incredible High School students made history by attending the inaugural South African Youth Institute at Stellenbosch University! We are incredibly proud to announce that Kundai Makwarimba, Abdullah Khan and Eshaal Ather have officially been named Borlaug Scholars!
What is a Borlaug Scholar?
Named after Dr. Norman Borlaug—the “Father of the Green Revolution” and 1970 Nobel Peace Prize winner—this prestigious title is given to students who don’t just study science but use it with purpose. Dr. Borlaug’s work developing high-yield crops saved over 1 billion people from starvation, and his motto was simple:
“Food is the moral right of all the living.”
By earning this title, our students have shown they have exactly what it takes to carry that legacy forward:
- Science + Purpose: A deep passion for solving global hunger and poverty
- Hands-on Research: A drive to be “doers,” tackling real-world agricultural and food security challenges
- A Service Mindset: The dedication to use their education to solve real life food problems
