Tshepo Lephoto

2024 Head Prefect Rockets to New Heights

Previously a student and head prefect at Lonehill International Academy, Tshepo now studies at Lawrence University in the United States. He was selected by the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium on 20 October as the team lead for his university, one of only two to be selected for the program. Tshepo was in charge of assembling the team members, preparing the research proposal, and doing all the admin required to submit their application on the NASA website on time.

Johar Pursad

2025 Head Prefect Wins Prestigious VCDMA Award

The VCDMA is a highly prestigious award granted entirely at the University of Pretoria's discretion to the top academic achievers, (typically high-performing first-year undergraduate students) whose exceptional final school results place them among the University’s highest achievers. Johar was selected from approximately 9,000 first-year entrants and falls within the top 0.4% of students admitted. Recipients are honoured at the annual Welcome and Leadership Conference.

The award carries significant non-financial distinction and developmental expectations and includes,
-Membership of the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Student Group
-Covers the first three years of undergraduate tuition fees
-Participation in leadership-focused and enrichment activities during the academic year
-Attendance at the VCDMA Welcome and Leadership Conference, aimed at developing leadership capability, resilience, and personal excellence
-Formal engagement with the Vice-Chancellor and senior University leadership

Being a VCDMA recipient is a mark of academic distinction and leadership potential, and winners often join a unique cohort of scholars.

Prenolan Govender

Studying Medicine at the University of Pretoria

I joined LIA in 2019 in Grade 6 and graduated in 2024. Those six years played a significant role in shaping who I am today and preparing me for my studies in medicine at the University of Pretoria.

One of the most valuable aspects of my time at LIA was the lifelong friendships I formed. Having a strong support system before entering university taught me the importance of building meaningful relationships and maintaining a strong network.

What stood out most to me about LIA was the Cambridge curriculum. As a second-year MBChB student at the University of Pretoria, I have found that it prepared me exceptionally well for both the workload and the critical application of knowledge required in such a demanding degree. The academic skills and work ethic I developed at LIA made the transition to university much smoother.

I also enjoy returning to LIA from time to time to catch up with my teachers and reconnect with old friends. It is always rewarding to see the community that played such an important role in my journey and personal growth.

Studying Medicine at the University of Cape Town

My name is Abigael Tamba, and I am currently a final-year student at the University of Cape Town, where I am pursuing my undergraduate degree in Medicine (MBChB).

I completed my high school education at Lonehill International Academy in 2020, and I am incredibly grateful for the foundation it provided. Beyond equipping me with the academic skills needed to succeed at university, Lonehill fostered discipline and curiosity, qualities that have been invaluable throughout my journey thus far.

Lonehill handpicks exceptional educators who are always willing to go the extra mile. The staff does not simply teach; they walk alongside their students, offering guidance, encouragement, and genuine care throughout our academic journey. Their support strengthened my ambition to study medicine and prepared me well for the challenges of medical school.

One of Lonehill's greatest strengths is its sense of community. The staff created an environment where students were encouraged to embrace curiosity and strive for excellence. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout medical school, and I remain grateful for the role Lonehill played in shaping both my academic journey and the person I am today.
